Review: Alice in Wonderland

I didn't see this in theater out of protest of 3D movies and how everything was being made in it. Plus the trailers made it look darn right STUPID. Well whoever did those trailers should be FIRED.

I actually enjoyed the movie. I only was convinced to rent it because it was getting award notice, especially by the Golden Globes and because of being the awards junkie (or whore depending on who you ask) I wanted to see it before January. I actually really really enjoyed it.

The actors did a great job of being insane and crazy and creating the 'Wonderland' world as an alternate universe for Alice to learn a lot about herself. I love the heart each character had and how it was at simplistic a movie about good versus evil and standing up for what you believe in like the Mad Hatter.

I also love how the characters were each aware of their flaws and even embraced them like the Red Queen who knew she was like a little kid and loved it so much!

The movie surprised me at how 'dark' it was with the heads floating in the moat and yet it was so child like. The war scenes at the end made the entire move to me and I LOVED when Alice shouted off with your head, it was so ironic and so poetic.

On a side note-- I loved how the movie did not try to recreate the previous movies of Alice in Wonderland but instead created a world that is 19 years into the future from the previous tales that most people know of. This allowed them to use the same universe but have a different story. If this had been mentioned in the trailer I so would have been there!

I definitely recommend this movie, it is a great rent for the family (as long as there are no young children). I can definitely see how it made so much money.
