This was by far not a great movie but it was not a horrible movie like I was expecting. These are two actors who I just do not get. I am not a fan of Sarah Jessica Parker. I love most of her movies but I find her voice very annoying-- and I am not a fan of the voice overs that she does in the Sex and the City series. I know that is not her fault but it just annoys me. Hugh Grant is good at one type of acting --- sarcasm (granted that is enough for me-- but when he tries serious he does not nail it too well).
Because of not liking the two actors going into the movie I was expecting to actually dislike this movie but everything I dislike about them in other movies actually works in this movie. Sarah Jessica Parker embraces her inner-self centeredness in this movie and makes it work so well and actually I began to feel sorry for the character. This was because Hugh Grant's character is so dislikeable and honestly I did not like him at all. But he nailed the sarcastic line EVERY TIME!!
The movie is about the two characters going through a separation which was probably going to lead to a divorce. But they witness a crime and have to go into witness protection (which is hysterical). As a result they begin to reconnect like only people in a movie would. As much as I did not like the actors too much I loved the supporting players of Sam Elliott and Mary Steenburgen as the couple in charge of protecting them. But even more so Elisabeth Moss and Wilford Brimley as the main character's personal assistants. They are HYSTERICAL!!! and personally they are the entire reason to see the movie. LOVE THEM!!
I recommend this as a great movie to watch on a date night in-- rent it and enjoy it. The likelihood of being unavailable at the rental place is not likely because this is not extremely popular. But it would be fun to watch.
It will make you laugh and cry and believe that love is possible-- which is what everyone loves to watch (including guys-- don't let them lie to you)!
Let me know what you think!
