4 out of 5 stars
I was hesitant to see this film because I thought it was just Hollywood's love of Roman Polanski that critics were in love with this. Well I regret it took me so long to see it because I actually loved this movie. Ewan McGregor at his very best in my opinion in this gripping thriller.
The movie is about a writer (Ewan) is called upon to finish the biography of the former Prime Minister of England (Pierce Brosnan who is just as amazing as in the 007 movies). The former writer is found murdered but than the PM is brought into a scandle and the writer becomes closer to the PM's wife who is brilliant in this movie.
Honestly from the very beginning I was in love with the wife's character-- she was great and then the ending helped to prove just how important I felt she was. The ending is only stuff that Hollywood could be and it was brilliant how it was all done off screen which I loved. The ending is essential to movies like I have said before and this one helped to bring it up to greatness in my book.
I recommend watching this movie just so you can watch this Hitchcock type movie and see the brilliance that is the acting and the ending. I want to see if you have the same opinion as I do. It is winning a lot of awards in Europe but surprising not getting me traction here in the US's awards circuit. This is surprising because Roman Polanski is much loved in the US despite his legal problems. This is a great follow up to his previous masterpiece-- The Pianist (highly recommend)!
Well let me know what you think of it! Love it? Hate it?
