5 out of 5 stars
I loved this just as much as Toy Story 3 but in a very different want. Toy Story 3 really went for my heart strings and it sure did pull. This one instead went for my love of music and musicals and really created a great movie.
But for me this movie was a little depressing after reading this is probably Disney's last animated musical for a while because there is not a true market out there anymore. Girls have become so much driven by their looks at a younger age that by the age of 5 they no longer think princesses are cool. Instead they are trying to be 'hot' which is a real shame, they are losing their childhood.
I thought the songs in this movie were absolutely brilliant and I found myself crying at one point when Rupezel is watching the lights that she has been waiting all her life to see.
It is a typical Disney movie-- Boy meets girl. Girl and boy hate each other. Girl and boy go on a quest together and begin to realize they like each other but deny it. Girl and boy have a problem and are separated. Girl and boy are reunited and profess their undying love for each other. But even knowing that you go into it and are 'shocked' each time.
The movie is also like a Disney movie because it has a dark character that surprised me how 'dark' she really is because she was a little scary (especially considering I was probably one of the older people in the theater-- ugh).
I highly recommend this!! Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi were brilliant and have amazing voices. The humor and sarcasm is enough to keep adults laughing almost more than the kids. In my opinion this deserves an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature even though I fear it will not get one over the not as superior How to Train Your Dragon (which I enjoyed don't get me wrong).
See it and let me know what you think (I saw this over Thanksgiving break and the movie has stuck with me this long so it really is good!!!)
