Review: Toy Story 3

I know it is surprising I had not seen this movie before last week. That three week vacation up to my parents' house and then out to California and back really affected my movie watching ability. But I finally saw it with a great friend and her adorable kid and I must say it was well worth the wait.

Review:

Rating: 5 out of 5

This is my first perfect score and you know what I honestly didn't think I would find a near perfect movie but this has to come close. Literally, it was up there with the two previous movies and in my opinion it was better than the second one (for some reason I did not like that one very much). The first Toy Story movie is one of my top five favorite animated movies of all time and this one was almost better than that.

When talking with my friend I went to the movies with I realized the first one came out in 1995-- I was 9 years old when it first came out and I saw it in theaters. So in reality I have grown up with these characters and not to use a cliche but I love them. They are a part of me and I really do care what happens to them. I will also admit that I have toys down in my basement here in Hanover that I cannot bare to get rid of. They remind me where I came from.

Toys are amazing things because when you are a kid you love them so dearly and you cannot imagine life without them. And these artists, directors, actors, computer people have created a world revolving around toys. It is ingenious!!

I was thrilled to see Buzz, Woody, Rex, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head and even Jessie (who I really did not care for). I will admit I was giddy when they all first came up on the screen. The story line made perfect sense of Andy going to college and the toys being given away to a daycare for others to use.

The new characters were different-- I must say the great addition was Ken. The writers used our knowledge of the Ken doll and created a PERFECT character that made us laugh and yet fall in love with him. Barbie was also a hoot and used every one of her assets to get the job done.

The other new toys I wasn't sold on and once you see the movie there is a perfect reason I did not love them from the beginning. Something just seemed off but I was so into the movie I never tried to predict why. (That is when I know I am at a great movie-- I am not dissecting it and trying to predict what will happen. Instead I just watch for fun!!)

That bear Lots--- Ned Beatty does a great job of creating this character and bring it to life. But I must say I hope he is not in any future movies if there are future ones. He was so deliciously _________-- I would hate to give it away so if you have seen it you can predict what word I would put there.

But as everyone who has seen it says-- the movie is all about the ending. The ending is probably one of the single best endings in any movie. Up there with the ending in Casablanca (two lovers say bye) and Titanic (when she drops the necklace). Honestly I did not cry, but I came very close. The toys showed such heart and genuine love that I was touched. It made me want to run home and go down into my basement and get out my stuffed animals from when I was a kid (Mefe my manatee and Washington my bear) and hug them and never let them go. It brought back such nostalgia that I was in awe of what the director created.

BUT my single favorite moment in the entire movie and the part that did make me cry was during the closing credits when the song "You Have a Friend In Me" was sung in spanish with the toys playing and having fun. That is when I finally lost it--- granted some of it might have to do with what happened right before it.

Part of me doesn't want a fourth Toy Story because why mess with something that is so close to perfection. But part of me also really wants to see what Pixar would do with the situation the toys are in.

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND GOING AND SEEING THIS MOVIE THIS VERY INSTANCE!!!!

Let me know what you think. Love it? or God forbid hate it?
