Review: The Crazies

This is 100% a horror/thriller movie which is my guilty pleasure genre that I watch when I need a pick me up. I know that seems weird but it makes me feel better about my life because things could be worse. It is definitely rated R and it deserves the rating.

Review:

Rating 4 out of 5 stars

This is one of the better horror movies I have seen lately. It goes for the scary moments but also adds in the gore factor and as one of my close friends says, "It goes for the shock value."

The movie is about a town where the citizens start to mysteriously kill people with no remorse. It turns out that something has gone into the town water source and within three days the people start to change from normal people to cold blooded killers. It is a very ingenious thought for a movie but it is not an original, this is a remake of a 70s or 80s movie which I have not seen.

What is unusual about this horror movie is the cast-- they are good actors. Normally a horror movie is made up of a B of C cast of people who want to be Hollywood stars but no one will hire them for the big budget movies. Think of the original Saw (which is amazing-- I highly recommend it for its brilliant ending!!!).

The movie is very predictable for two reasons-- one it is a horror movie and most times they follow the same sequence. The second reason is a little more synical-- it involves the government having to save the town and Hollywood doesn't like Big Brother so of course the government would be shown in a bad light.

The ending is unrealistic-- I do not want to spoil it but the way they try to kill the virus is not something the government would actually use. The last thirty minutes is when I start to think this actually could not happen in real life. I love realistic horror movies-- the ones that scare me for weeks to come and keep me from doing my laundry because that involves going into the basement alone.

I recommend this movie but beware if you are scared easily, this is probably not the movie for you. Also if you do not like the sight of blood-- do not rent this one either.

Let me know what you think!
