This is one of those rare reviews of a TV movie-- I usually do not watch TV movies except for ones that are on the SyFy channel. I am seriously addicted to that channel for some reason-- they are so unrealistic and have terrible horrible special affects but it is like a train wreck, you cannot help but watch it.
Megafault is actually a made for TV movie from the SyFy channel but I did not know that when I rented it from blockbuster. Normally I do not watch TV movies except if they are on TNT or HBO and sometimes Lifetime (which makes really good ones occasionally). But this movie really surprised me!!
Review:
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars!!
I personally am in shock I am giving a made for TV movie such a high score but it gets MAJOR props for having good acting, a good script (not too many cliches), I actually believed the science behind this bizarre earthquake and the special effects were not horrible.
The movie stars Brittany Murphy in her last TV role before her untimely death last year. (Incase you haven't figured it out that means this is a 2009 release.) Normally when an actor or actress stars in movies on the SyFy channel it means they are desperate for money but Brittany Murphy was quite good. She did not overact or underact which is what happens to many in these weather/earth disaster type movies. I mean there were a few times I roled my eyes and just laughed at how ridiculous she was but I blame the writing for that.
The other actors were quite good-- nothing great but nothing horrible enough for me to drop the rating of the movie. I really enjoyed the science behind the movie because the writer did not use big words and confuse me. Instead everything was said at normal levels so I actually believed that an earthquake could split the entire country in two and that a lowly dynamite worker could blow up part of the Rocky Mountains to try and save everyone. Watch it -- this actually does make sense-- I SWEAR!!
Please do not get me wrong-- the movie is VERY cheesy and I was laughing so hard at times because of it. There was a ridiculous story line about the scientist's husband and daughter and them heading toward home which of course was the center of the earthquake fault and them being in danger. But I could overlook that because the girl was so adorable and was able to melt my heart.
I do recommend this movie-- go rent it. But if you do not like normal weather or earth disaster related movies you will probably not like this one. I personally do-- I think The Day After Tomorrow is a great movie (so if you disliked that movie you will probably dislike this one too).
Let me know what you think!
Also I am curious-- can you comment on my blog? I tried to do some changing to make it more accessible to everyone.
