Review:
3.5 out of 5 stars
It would have gotten a lot better rating if it had not been for the acting which was horrible across the board (along with the unlikelihood of the events). As I discussed in my last review the ending is what matters to me and I am not ashamed to admit that I was crying during the last thirty minutes.
This movie is by no stretch a great movie but it packs one heck of an emotional punch. Even though the acting is horrible (yes I am talking to you Tea Leoni) but you care for them and you do not want the human race to end. When the comets are coming towards the earth at the end of the movie and it looks like all hope is lost I was crying because I didn't want the world to end. I cared for the characters.
This shows that the writing is actually pretty good and the special effects were even better (considering this came before the big digital age of movies).
The movie is about a comet that is coming towards Earth-- it is called an Extinction Comet because if it hits the Earth all living creatures will die. As a result a team is made to go and try to nuke the comet but incase that doesn't work all the countries of the world have created these caves to house as many people as possible to make sure that the human race survives for two years before Earth can sustain life again.
The movie is unrealistic at times but if you go with that you will actually find yourself enjoying the movie. I enjoy movies that show the human spirit at its best, when people come together for the common good and are willing to sacrifice anything for those they love. This is one of those movies.
I recommend renting this movie or finding it on one of your basic cable channels because it always seems to be on.
Let me know if you agree (or disagree-- which I highly doubt). Do you have any other favorite movies that show humans at their best-- willing to help those they do not know and sacrifice everything?
Deep Impact is one of my favorite movies. I didn't pick up on bad acting though. It was just such an emotional experience for me!! I cried constantly during the second half of the movies when all of the catastrophic events began. And I LOVE a good cry, so that's probably why I love this movie!
