Number 19-- On Golden Pond
This movie is simply amazing and if I would have been the advertiser for this movie my tag line for it would have been--- The Best Movie About Nothing You Will Ever See!! or A Movie about Families. Both of these describe the movie brilliantly.
Granted the movie is about something-- it was made for pete's sake!! It was made in 1981 and stars Katherine Hepburn and Henry Fonda in Oscar WINNING roles along with Oscar Nominee Jane Fonda (who was amazing).
This movie made me stop hating Jane Fonda (she as a person really irks me but she is a beautiful actress) and made me fall in love with Katherine Hepburn and discover her acting brilliance. This literally raised her to goddess status in my book (along with Bettie Davis and Meryl Streep). BUT this movie belongs to Henry Fonda who gives the BEST performance of his career and actually died soon after this came out. He was amazing. He is the father of Jane Fonda and it is great they could share this movie together.
The movie is about a daughter played by Jane Fonda who visits her parents who are staying at a cabin along Golden Pond. It shows how they bond and grow closer together. Jane Fonda's character brings her son and fiance along and it shows very interesting dynamics to all of the different relationships (mother and son, mother and daughter, father and daughter, parents and children, etc). It is a great to watch from the stand point of a character analysis!!
I HIGHLY recommend this movie and cannot speak enough about how great it is. It was nominated for tons of awards and is one that I agree deserved every nomination and award. Even though I say it is the best movie about nothing, I believe you will become invested in the characters and be disappointed when it is over.
Sometime next week I will post about Number 18--- let me give you a few clues. I would be willing to bet you DID NOT see this movie. It is a foreign language film of the last ten years (2000-2010) that was nominated for best foreign language film and may have won -- I don't totally want to give this away).
Let me know if you have seen ON GOLDEN POND and what you thought of it and let me know if you have any guesses about what Number 18 could be!!
On Golden Pond...wow. I LOVED that movie as well. Watched it often as a child. Henry Fonda's character reminded me of my grandfather who was gruff, strict, unemotional, and whom I desperately wanted to show me love. Great pic, Eric!
ReplyDeleteNo idea about number 18.
