Review: The Women

Review:
3 out of 5 stars

Honestly I LOVED this movie more than words can express. It is a damn hysterical movie!! You can honestly pick yourself out of the cast because they make every stereotype in all the characters. That is the major problem with the movie-- they have every stereotype and cliche in the movie, that is very unrealistic.

The movie is also hysterical because the women talk about movies-- there there aren't any in the film. They talk about them and they gossip about them but there are no male actors or extras in the film (that is extremely hard to do my guess is). There is also very little in the way of a plot. The movie is basically about the lives of four friends (actually on three of the friends-- the fourth didn't have a plot but to be the gay black friend). They do discover one of the husbands is having an affair but that is not that big of a deal in this world.

I did love the over-the-top acting because it just added to the satire feel of the movie. The reason people hated this movie so much is because they took it too serious. The movie is meant to be fun and exciting which it is if you take it from the stand point of a popcorn flick. Do not take it too seriously or you will discover the flaws.

It has an all-star cast of Meg Ryan (who is amazing), Annette Bening, Debra Messing, Eve Mendes (who I LOVED), Jada Pinkett-Smith (who can deliver one-liners like no one), Cloris Leachman (who was the heart of the movie-- which is really weird), Bette Midler (who was there for one purpose), Carrie Fisher (in a great cameo), Candice Bergen (hysterical) and many more great actresses. I loved the film for just the fact of getting them all in the same movie.

This will definitely be a movie I watch OVER AND OVER AGAIN!! It is hysterical and will make you feel better about your friendships. I also dare you to pick out which character you relate with the most-- it will help you learn more about yourself.

RENT IT-- let me know what you think, love it? hate it?

I was very hesitant to see this movie because it did not look especially good but I was drawn to it because I expect it to be nominated for a few Oscars in the technical fields. If the word Oscar is used in the same sentence as a movie I will without a doubt be there to see it in theaters if I can find a way to do it.

I actually ended up enjoying this movie and it was a very good popcorn movie. A popcorn movie is one that you watch just for the shear enjoyment of the movie. You do not try and critique it or figure out whether it is amazing or horrible-- you just watch it for fun without thinking. When I did that I found myself loving it and laughing and even giggling with enjoyment.

There were not any stand out parts that were downright amazing. The visual affects were amazing and actually the idea behind it blows the mind but it was nothing original. My guess is the first was amazing for the time but this one, well there have been better movies (Avatar comes to mind).

The acting was not anything amazing but Garrett Hedlund was very charismatic on screen and I didn't hate Olivia Wilde like I do on House. She was very good in this movie, nothing to warrant awards but she was fun to watch.

The sarcasm and humor of this movie was amazing because it was unexpected. There were a lot of great one-liners. I actually pulled out my iphone to post some on my facebook but it started malfunctioning- haha. Literally I was like WOW how could I miss this opportunity but it just wasn't meant to be.

I do recommend this movie and I definitely recommend the 3D-- it was one where it was good (unlike many 3D movies out there). The 3D was only in the scenes that were in the Grid-- not any in the real world. This made perfect sense and I was ok with it and I feel you will be too.

Let me know what you think of the movie if you end up seeing it-- love it? hate it?

3 out of 5 stars

This has one of my two favorite guilty pleasure actors--- Melissa George and Ryan Reynolds. And it is one of my guilty pleasure genres-- HORROR!!! What could go wrong with this movie. OH SO MUCH!!! This was actually a scary movie that did make me jump a few times (that is hard to do-- I didn't do that in any of the SAW movies after the first one).

The movie is about a couple that movie into an old house that was sold to them dirt cheap. As they are getting settled in weird things begin to happen and the youngest child begins to make an imaginary friend who is really a ghost. The ghost makes her do weird things. Then the husband begins to act strangle like he is possessed.

The house has evil spirits in it and the family needs to fight for survival and get away. The ending is actually surprising because everyone doesn't die as what happens in most horror movies. I did enjoy the ending and loved how it didn't leave room for a sequel like most horror movies.

I do recommend this for a scare night movie fest or during the day so you can sleep at night fest. It did give me some nightmares but nothing I cannot handle. It is scary so if you dislike horror movies DON'T SEE IT!!!

Let me know what you think if you see it or saw it-- love it? hate it?

3.5 out of 5 stars

This movie is a little better than average but still did not deserve the high rating of 4. I know it might seem weird that I hadn't seen this movie because it is fairly recent but I didn't become a true movie freak until around 2006-2007 and this movie came out in 2005. I have always loved movies but I used to be able to control the problem--- now I just embrace it-- WOOT WOOT!!!

The movie is about a man whose wife commits suicide one night and he and his daughter have to cope with it. They cope by moving upstate to get away from the city. The girl (play by the amazing Dakato Fanning in one of her BEST roles I have ever seen) begins to have an imaginary friend named Charlie who is doing horrible things. People get hurt and begin to die and it comes together in an ending that is quite unique and hard to predict. Honestly the only reason I knew what was going to happen is because of my good friend-- WIKIPEDIA- haha.

The movie is a psychological thriller down to the truest sense of the word. It plays with your mind and also the minds of the actors. My major issue with the movie is that Robert Dinero shouldn't be playing a dad but a grandfather. They tried to make him look younger but it just wasn't working unless they said somewhere they adopted the child and then I might have believed it.

I do recommend renting this movie, I personally bought it at a yard sale for $1 which is cheaper than renting.

Let me know what you think of the movie-- love it? hate it?

Let me think of a word to describe this movie-- HORRIBLE. Let me think of a word to describe the special effects-- HORRIBLE. Let me think of a word to describe the acting- HORRIBLE. PERIOD!!!

Honestly this is one of the WORST movies I have ever seen and I cannot believe that people looked at this script and thought it would be worth acting in. I also cannot believe that back in the day (the 1980s) this was considered a box office success because that means people actually went and saw this movie-- WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!?!?!?!

The movie is about how Manhattan is transformed into a high security prison (yes the entire island) after World War III. Once you are put in you NEVER get out. Terrorists hijack the president's plane and crash it onto the island and a man who is about to become a prisoner on the island must find him so that he doesn't have to go to the island.

Very cheesy plot but very predictable-- too predictable. Honestly you know what is going to happen within the first three minutes of finding out about the problem.

Do not waste your money on this movie like I did-- WHAT WAS I THINKING!!!!!

If you have scene it in the past let me know what you thought of it-- hate it as much as me?

Review: The Fighter

Review:
4.5 out of 5

Honestly one of the best movies of the year and one of the best boxing movies, right up there with Raging Bull from the 1980s which was brilliant. The only reason this did not get a perfect score was because it was difficult to watch at times because of the drug content and violent nature of some scenes. This was very graphic and bloody at times. But I do not want you to think twice about seeing it I just want you to be prepared.

At times I had to look the other direction or close my eyes just because I wasn't prepared. The violence did not bother me, I am from a generation that has become accustomed to it (which is sad), but the drug usage is what got me. This didn't try to hide it and it showed the consequences. If I were using, this would make me think very seriously about trying to quit-- it didn't try to hide it or glorify it which is needed more in today's culture with today's youth.

The movie is based on a true story of a man who wants to become a true boxer but his famous brother holds him back. His brother has a drug problem that everyone knows about but no one talks about. Their mother heavily favors the brother and he can do no wrong in her eyes. They have some very touching scenes that might very well earn Melissa Leo and Christian Bale deserving Oscars for these roles. The movie also features the boxer's girlfriend, played by one of my personal favorite actresses--- Amy Adams who at such a young age acts with such vigor of the great Meryl Streep and the late Katherine Hepburn. She will be one of the greats eventually and I can't wait to see that.

This movie has some of the best acting from an ensemble cast this year and could very well earn 4 acting nominations for Mark Walburg, Christian Bale, Melissa Leo and Amy Adams. That is rare to have so many from one movie get nominated. Mark Walburg is a long shot but a possibility the other three have basically secured a nomination which are very well deserved. There has even been talk about Best Director and Best Picture nominations. I would agree with both along with many more nominations-- it could end up with the most nominations of any film but only time will tell. It is not my personal favorite for the year but it is definitely in my top 10 maybe even top 5.

I highly recommend this movie-- go see it and let me know what you think-- love it? hate it?

Review: Armored

3.5 out of 5 stars

This was one of my Black Friday purchases because it looked like a nice mindless popcorn film (which is was). There are some movies I go into and expect nothing but a good laugh, scream or thrill (this gave all three).

The movie is about a group of security guards who decide to steal from their company (they are armored truck guards). They talk the new guy into going along with it but when it takes a turn for the worse and people start to get hurt he locks himself in the truck to try and protect the money. Eventually a police officer gets hurt and he brings him into the truck. It all comes together in a very predictable but satisfying ending.

This would be a fun date night movie because it is not horribly scary and it is very predictable but in the end it is fun to watch. I especially loved the cheesy acting that was over dramatic. It was almost hysterical at times but fun to watch. You will recognize some of the actors who probably did this just for the payday because it was a very simple plot and simple script.

But the difference is this movie does not pretend to be anything more than a good popcorn movie-- it doesn't even try to be a blockbuster movie (which I think it could have been with the right marketing campaign.

Rent this-- you won't be disappointed. Let me know what you think-- love it? hate it?
